Class 6 math

A Simplified Understanding Of Class 6 Mathematics With NCERT Solutions

It is known for a fact that Class 6 is the basis of middle school where students get introduced to broad changes in the curriculum.  Mathematics is one of the core subjects whose foundations need to be laid at an impressionable age as it increases a person’s practical approach to any kind of complex situation. It requires the utmost clarity in its concepts so that they can gain better reasoning ability.

Due to these factors, NCERT solutions for Class 6 Maths are widely preferred amongst the students and teachers. Vedantu NCERT Solutions help to break down and simplify the complex calculations of each topic to gain a better understanding of the subject. The different variety of questions and step by step solutions related to each chapter gives the student an idea regarding their mistakes and how to attempt such questions in examinations, thus sharpening their Math skills.

Topics included in NCERT Class 6 Math:

  • Knowing our numbers

In the first chapter of NCERT solutions for Class 6 Maths, the students are introduced to writing and comparing large numbers of 6 or 7 digits, the Indian and Universal System, and Roman numerals.  A total of 3 exercises are there in the chapter based on concepts of ascending and descending order, sums related to word problems, and basic Mathematical operations of large numbers including rounding off a number.

  • Whole numbers

This chapter makes the students acquainted with the concept of whole numbers, predecessor and successor of a natural number, addition, subtraction, and representation of natural numbers on the number line. There are three exercises that deal with the addition and subtraction of integers using a number line, commutative and associative properties of addition, and multiplication and pattern identification of whole numbers.

  • Playing with numbers

In this part, the students will learn about the factors and multiples of a given number, perfect number, prime, composite and co-prime numbers along with common factors and common multiples. Finding LCM and HCF using the prime factorization method is also discussed here. There are a total of seven exercises, with different variety of questions for the students to practice and hone their Math skills.

  • Basic geometrical ideas

Chapter 4 exercises of NCERT solutions for Class 6 Maths deal with the concepts of a point, line segment, lines – intersecting, and parallel. These are the basic terms to be understood before heading into the topic. They also deal with angles and their components, triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles.

  • Understanding elementary shapes

Understanding Elementary Shapes help us to have an idea about all the types of shapes that can be made using curves or lines. Students learn to observe the corners, edges, planes, open curves, and closed curves in the surroundings.  A total of nine exercises are present in the chapter that teaches the students, to measure line segments using ruler and divider, to identify whether right, straight or complete angle, concepts of perpendicular lines, classification of triangles and quadrilaterals, name and properties of other 3 – D figures.

  • Integers

Integers introduce us to the idea of negative numbers. Students learn about the representation of integers on a number line, ordering of integers, the addition, and subtraction of integers. The three exercises in this topic mainly focus on questions based on properties of integers along with the addition, and subtraction of integers on the number line.

  • Fractions

This chapter talks about the number line, proper and improper fractions, and more.  A total of six exercises are present to emphasize the pictorial representation of fractions, some word problems, and removing common factors from the numerator and denominator of fractions.

  • Decimals

This topic on Decimals discusses the idea of decimals like tenths, hundredths, and their representation on the number line through word problems and then goes into complex concepts. The chapter contains six exercises which help the students in building a solid foundation in Math for higher grade studies.

  • Data Handling

For the first time, students learn about Data Handling. It discusses the topic of data, types of data, and the different representations of data. The chapter houses four exercises to help the students to understand and draw pictographs using tally marks, bar graphs or diagrams and statistics, that are fun and engaging, and relevant in higher classes.

  • Mensuration

The tenth chapter of Class 6 Math, Mensuration, is a vital topic for the students.  Mensuration is simply the measurement of shapes, figures by their area, and volume. The three exercises in this chapter cover the fundamentals of measuring the area and perimeter of regular figures like squares, rectangles, etc. with the use of suitable formulas.

  • Algebra

Algebra, one of the three main branches of Mathematics, takes us to a brand new concept that involves solving problems using alphabets. The idea of Algebra using matchsticks, word problems, the use of variables on geometrical figures, and the formulation/solution of equations are explained in detail with the five exercises that are there in this chapter.

  • Ratio and Proportion

Ratio and Proportion help the students to compare situations by division. The exercises that come with this chapter also explain in detail the Unitary Method, which is key to calculation.

  • Symmetry

Symmetry is the study to determine symmetrical items and operations based on it. With the help of the three exercises, the students learn to make symmetrical figures with two, or more than two lines of symmetry.

  • Practical Geometry

The last chapter, Practical Geometry, is an important one as it deals with the construction of geometrical figures using ruler and compass only. Here we will also learn about drawing perpendicular bisectors of given line segments. The five exercises provided with this chapter helps students to draw circles, angles of certain values and introduces them to certain common angles like 30°, 60°, and 120°.

Conclusion:

Mathematics is one of the subjects that require a clear understanding of its concepts and is not a favorite amongst most students. Once the concepts are clear, the students must practice exercises/sums/problems as much as they can to hone their skills. The NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Maths provide a detailed explanation of the basics/fundamentals of each chapter. The students not only learn things that are needed today but also equally important for the future. The solutions provide a reliable reference for the students, and the exercises provided with each chapter makes learning Mathematics easy and engaging.
